A Quick Midweek Getaway to Palm Springs
The last couple of months have been super busy, fun and productive. As you know I have been adding new products like jewelry and scarves to our web site recently aswell as working on a new production of spring / summer jackets right now as well. It keeps me super busy and I want to add more and more items to keep all my customers happy and stylish. I am so glad that the reaction to these new additions to the site has been great. It is fun for me as I am doing something I love and am passionate about, but sometimes when you are doing something you love, you don’t feel the need for down time or relaxation, and it does catch up with you sooner or later when you suddenly realize you need to stop and take a little time off for yourself.
Last week it hit me, and I said to myself; I need a couple of days off. So my husband and I decided on a quick two day, one night stay getaway to Palm Springs was needed this week. It’s a little over a 100 miles from where we live and it takes anywhere from 1.5-2 hours by car to get there so it’s the perfect destination for a quick getaway, not to mention the great weather this time of the year when it is not too hot there yet.
We have stayed at many wonderful hotels in Palm Springs like the Viceroy, Korakai Pensione and The Parker which have a great Palm Springs “era” feel about them, so this time we decided to give The Riviera Palm Springs a try.
The Riviera hotel first opened its doors in 1959 and it was a favorite hangout for Frank Sinatra and the “Rat Pack” in the 60’s. Bob Hope and Sonny and Cher were also among celebrities that performed there regularly as well. The hotel was sold in 2006 and given $70 million modernization to the whole property over the course of a few years. The Riviera re-opened in 2008 and now brings back the glamour and excitement of the halcyon days of the 60’s with renovations that have created a modern “re-mix” of 60’s influences, from oversized crystal chandeliers and vibrant shag rugs, to Andy Warhol pop art and an eclectic blend of retro furnishings mirrors and fabrics and I think it looks and feels amazing.
Basically as soon as we arrived until we left, we were poolside in our bathing suits sipping on the odd Mojito or Bellini, which is why we wanted to get away in the first place. When we went out that evening for dinner and drinks, I wore my floral asymmetrical printed dress that I love. I decided to add a tailored men’s vest to this dress to give it a new look. I normally wear this dress with a little black cardigan, which works well too, but I wanted to try something different so I thought why not a vest over the dress? I love men’s tailored vests for women and I especially love the idea of mixing the tailored look of this vest with a soft dress.
To finish the look I added one of our delicate and pretty necklaces which comes with matching earrings.
Even though it was short, we had a great time and managed to get some quick R&R to rejuvenate us so we can get back to our daily routine.
Do you have any quick getaways planned and what are your thoughts on my look?
