Faux Fur Fall 2014 Biggest Trend
Faux Fur Fall 2014 Biggest Trend
Here’s a little something to warm you up today as much of the northern hemisphere is gripped in the winter cold. These womens faux fur jackets and vests should make you feel warm just looking at them. As the fashion industry is feverishly working on preparing for Fall 2015 fashion shows which will be happening next month, I wanted to share with you what my favorite trend for fall 2014 season was – “faux fur jackets and vests”. I have always loved faux fur jackets, vests, coats and even scarves and for the last few fall seasons I have always bought something faux fur and worn it all season. Even though here in Los Angeles, it is not the best location to wear this warm outerwear, I manage to find a way to do so, that’s how much I love this trend.
This year it’s been wonderful to see how acceptable this trend has become with a lot more stores stocking faux fur items and more women embracing them.
Fur is generally thought to have been among the first materials used for clothing and bodily decoration. In those days real animal fur was what was used for survival from the cold. Later on real fur became a status symbol and many people liked showing off their wealth by wearing real fur. As technology improved and faux fur was introduced, real fur popularity died down.
Anti fur campaigns reached a peak in 1980’s and 1990’s with the participation of many celebrities and even some big fashion designers. Today faux fur has become more popular not only because of the animal cruelty movements, but also for the availability for everyone at every price point. Personally I love faux fur better because it can be designed and dyed in so many different patterns and colors and they are more affordable and exciting.
Here is how I think you should wear them:
- Wear them with tight fitting tops underneath.
- They look best with slimmer bottoms like skinny pants or skirts.
- If you choose to wear them with a fuller bottom, make sure they are made of soft, drapey and fluid fabrics.
- Make the fur piece your focal point and do not add too many other prints or patterns to it, stick to maybe only one other print or pattern piece and a solid.
Below I have included some of my favorite looks from the runways and a few fur pieces that I love in stores currently. What are your thoughts on fur or faux fur outerwear?
