Mixing Patterns In Gray Ivory Blue And Silver - Just Style LA

For today’s look, I am mixing a few patterns together that I think work perfectly with each other. Mixing patterns can be tricky as you never want to mix too many patterns and prints together in the same outfit. However, if it is done right, it can make an outfit a lot more interesting.

Plaids and stripes are two patterns that mix well most of the time with some exceptions. For me they work well if one is the main pattern and the second one is a complimentary pattern. What I mean by that is one should be your main pattern, either because of the size or multiple colors, and the second one can be a smaller pattern that pulls only one or two of the colors from the main pattern. Also a size difference in the two patterns will make them more interesting as well.

Since I wanted to restyle our Gray Plaid Over sized Duster Coat, which I first debuted for you here, I thought this could be a good start to mix some patterns together. The duster coat is an easy piece to throw on and make any outfit more stylish. It is unlined and unstructured with no shoulder pads, making it comfy yet super chic and trendy. It can work over many outfits going into spring as it is light weight.

The coat has a simple ivory plaid pattern over the gray fabric. It is the type of pattern that is perfect to mix with a stripe, but I would say use a subtle stripe and nothing too busy. It just so happens that I have a brand-new stripe blouse that mixes perfectly with it, Our beautiful Ivory Lace Up Blouse with Metallic Stripes.

This blouse is made out of a slightly crinkled rayon fabric in ivory with silver pinstripes woven in. You may not be able to see the silver stripes until you zoom in, but they are there and they make the blouse super special. I have also included a close up of the fabric at the end of the photos so you can see the silver stripe. The peasant style body is loose and easy to wear. It has a lace up detail in the front with silver eyelets and a lace ribbon detail. The silver hardware picks up the silver stripe of the blouse making the whole top a great looking piece.

As for a third pattern, I added our new Gray Navy Blue Silver Abstract Print Scarf Shawl. The abstract print is different enough from the plaid and the stripe, so it works really well with both the top and the duster. It also has touches of silver in the scarf which work well with the silver in the blouse. I also love the pop of the blue which is mixed with navy, white and silver, making it a great color combo.

As for jewelry today, I decided to wear earrings instead of a necklace as the front of the blouse has a lot of detail and I thought a necklace would be too busy with it. I chose drop earrings that are new in our shop. These earrings are made out of matte silver metal and the middle piece is filled with and abalone shell which looks almost white.
