Our White Cold Shoulder Top At Venice Canals

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. We had a great time at John Legend’s concert Sunday night and an even nicer family day on Monday with my son who just returned from Europe.

A little over a week ago my husband and I had a fun day out visting the Venice Canals which are located in Venice Los Angeles. I have lived in Los Angeles area for over 35 years and have been to Venice beach many times but I had never been to the Venice Canals and let me tell you it is worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Over a 100 years ago, a developer named Abbot Kinney conceived a crazy idea of building a “Venice of America” filled with canals all over the Venice beach area. It was meant to recreate the appearance and feel of Venice Italy complete with fine arts, canals and gondolas with imported Italian gondoliers.

The experiment unfortunately failed when the American public did not warm to his dream and in 1924 the city decided it needed more roads for the popular “automobile” and most of the canals were filled in in order to pave them. Within a next few years all the canals were gone except for a few that are still there to this day.

In 1940 the canals were declared unsafe and were closed to the public, until 1992 when they were renovated and finally reopened. At that point they became a desirable and expensive residential section of Venice and the residential district surrounding the remaining canals was listed on the “National Register of Historic Places”. The newly renovated and redeveloped homes on the canals are considered among the most beautiful and desirable residential neighborhoods in Southern California and are valued in the millions of dollars.

Parking was difficult to find in the area, but after some time we managed to find valet parking and walk over to the canals. Once you are there, it is very quite, relaxing and a nice picturesque place to spend a few hours exploring. At the end of my photos you can see a few photos I have included from the area.

After our small walk around the canals we drove to Abbot Kinney street area to explore the “coolest block of shops in America” and grab an early dinner at a local restaurant.

As for my outfit, I wore our brand new White Cold Shoulder Top with Graphic Print with my ripped jeans and espadrilles. This top is really pretty and feminine and the cold shoulder detail gives it a nice cool feeling going into summer.

Since the weather was still a bit on the cold side, especially in Venice Beach area, I wore our Taupe Hooded Cargo Jacket as well for part of the day. To finish off the look I added our Multi Beaded String Necklace with Orange Stone which picks up the orange flowers in the graphic print of the top.

All three pieces I am wearing today are part of our “Memorial Weekend Sale” which is ending tonight at midnight. Here are the details for the sale.
