The Modern And Unexpected Business Suit
The Modern And Unexpected Business Suit
In the last few seasons, I have been seeing more and more sleeveless and short sleeve womens blazers on the runways. Long or short, fitted or oversized, single breasted or double breasted, they have been popping up everywhere. Personally, I have always been a big fan of sleeveless or short sleeve blazers. It is a chic and modern way to update a basic blazer, especially for the spring summer season. Even though a lot of women have not caught on to this trend yet, I think that they will as designers put out more and more of them. I have had my BCBG short cap sleeve double breasted blazer for a few years now and have worn it in many different ways. The way that I approach wearing this piece is like any other blazer I own in my wardrobe, except I wear this on warmer days so I don’t need to wear a long sleeve under it. Granted you can definitely wear it with a long sleeve top as long as the sleeves are tight, I personally like it with bare arms. A couple of days ago, I was meeting a client for lunch in downtown Los Angeles, and I wanted to look business- like but still trendy and chic, so I decided to wear this jacket. As I was styling it, I thought to myself; why not wear it with tailored shorts as opposed to a pencil skirt or trousers? And when I put on my tailored Club Monaco shorts with it, I really liked the proportion and look of it. It was like wearing a “short suit” instead of “pant suit”. Now, I am very aware that I can get away with this kind of a business look because I work in the fashion industry and there is a lot of freedom with what you can call “business attire”. In many fields you may not be able to wear this to the office. But I am sure the short sleeve blazer will not be a problem for any office, maybe just not with shorts. What are your thoughts about short sleeve or sleeveless jackets? Will you be embracing this trend?
