How To Wear White In The Fall Season
I am sure you have all heard of the old saying “no white after labor day”. This is obviously an outdated rule and most women, including myself, are not following this rule these days and I think we can all agree that white can look just as chic for fall as it does for spring and summer.
The idea behind the “no white after labor day” rule first started in the turn of the 20th century, according to the Emily Post Institute. Back then the summer season was bracketed by Memorial Day to Labor Day, when city folks would put their heavy clothes away for lighter weight fabrics and colors. These days it is more about fabric choice than color. Even in the coldest of months, one can wear white wools, cashmeres, jeans and jackets. How you style it is also another key element to make white work for fall.
Here are a few pointers in how to wear white for fall:
- Choose heavier fabrics in white.
- Wear them with heavier pieces over them.
- Combine them with darker colors.
- Wear appropriate accessories with them like boots and scarves.
Today I am showing you one of my all white looks that I styled for a fall day. I love wearing white jeans during fall especially combining them with black, navy, brown or gray. I also wanted to show you our brand new Tuxedo blouse that we have just added to our store. I decided to style it with my white jeans for an all white look, then add a jacket, scarf and black accessories to give it a fall look.
The tuxedo blouse is a trendy white piece with the black tie and black buttons. The tie can be worn many different ways, as you will see in my photos, with one of the trendier ways being the bowtie look. The body is the same as our Aurora Red tie blouse, which I featured a few weeks ago and we sold quite a few of them. With white jeans and the white blouse, I decided to add one of our classic blazers, the Milano blazer which is made out of a menswear inspired black/gray basket weave fabric. I love this blazer and you can wear it year round with so many different items. To tie it all together, I added our Ivory/gray/black leopard print scarf which works really well with both the blazer and the blouse. I love the mix of the leopard print with the basket weave of the blazer. To finish this look, I added my black pumps, which could have easily been boots, a black belt and my red bag for a pop of color.
