I Love My New Maxwell Scott Bag
People always ask me what my philosophy is when it comes to spending money on expensive items when shopping for clothes and accessories.
Well my philosophy on spending money goes like this: I spend the most on women’s handbags and shoes, but I also don’t buy as many of them especially bags. Handbags and shoes are very hard to pull off if they are cheap, so I would rather buy fewer pieces but buy good quality every time. The next category that I am really picky about is of course women’s jackets and blazers. I know how a jacket needs to be constructed and sewn and I know a lot about quality of textiles and how they are used in different ways to make a good jacket, so I usually splurge a little more on jackets when I find one that I really love. For me the other wardrobe categories are a lot easier to manage with a lower budget.
Recently I was approached by a fine leather luggage and bag company called Maxwell Scott from England to collaborate with them on a photo shoot and share their companies’ products and history with my readers. As I have mentioned before, I am quite picky about who I like to work with, as I feel it has to be quality and something that fits my brand, something I really love and something I would wear. After looking at their web site I was immediately drawn to their unique style and quality, it is something you don’t see everywhere and I really like their look.
They fuse traditional modern English designs with Italian craftsmanship, and I think it for me it represents a new era of individuality, luxury and style. The company was founded by William Scott Forshaw, whose mother loved to take trips to Italy to buy handbags and it inspired him to start this company back in 2002. All the bags are designed using handpicked skins by William and his design team in York, England which is also where their headquarters are located. However everything is handcrafted in Tuscany Italy by local highly skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. Initially the company was tailored mainly towards corporate clientele but has since transitioned online and they are now selling and shipping these beautiful items all over the world.
It was a difficult choice for me to choose a bag to style for this collaboration as they have so many beautiful bags, but I finally decided to go with their “Clarissa women’s contemporary purse” as they call it, in their classic tan which is one of my favorite leather colors. I think this Clarissa bag is an understated, chic Italian leather handbag with elegant design features. This bag also has a unique cross-over leather flap opening that lifts to reveal a large interior that has a handy cell phone slot and an additional small internal zipped pocket. This is a practical bag for me that is a timeless chic accessory that can be used for both work and pleasure.
I love a classic tan color for leather bags and shoes because it is so versatile, you can wear it with any color from black to denim or brown and beige, it just makes an outfit look chic and elegant. I chose to style it here with a sleeveless jacket I purchased from Topshop when I was in New York a few months ago. I don’t normally shop much at Top shop but when I was there I managed to find two sleeveless jackets that I really liked. I will style the other one in an upcoming blog story in the next few weeks. This one is made of a nice and soft double knit and I love the color. I paired it with my slim black crop pants and pointy pumps in the same tan as the bag and last but not least I added one of our brand new multi-layer necklaces available here to finish off the look.
I am super excited that Maxwell Scott bags has agreed to give my readers a very special discount from now until Sept 13th . 2015
